Mission Statement
The Mission Statement of the Adams County Forest is to manage and conserve a public land opportunity for current and future generations, as well as to protect and conserve timber, soil, and forest related resources..These resources, such as those provided by the Adams County Forest, are the base for addressing the ecological and socioeconomic needs of society.
Adams County Forest
The Adams County forest is one of the 30 counties in Wisconsin enrolled in the County Forest system. These lands are located in central and northern Wisconsin totaling over 2.4 million acres. County Forests originated in the Badger State and are found in only two others, Michigan and Minnesota. County Forests are “working forests” managed for a variety of benefits including:
Timber Production
Wildlife Habitat
Protection of endangered or rare animals, plants and natural communities.
Watershed Protection
Recreational Opportunities
The Adams County Forest encompasses approximately 740 acres with of a variety of forest types including:
Red Pine- 60%
Aspen- 14.9%
Oaks- 14.9%
Wetland/Grassland- 8.1%
Jack Pine- 2.0%
Recreation Opportunities Maps
The county forest also provides tremendous opportunities for informal recreational pursuits not requiring developments. These include hunting, trapping, berry and mushroom picking, bird watching, hiking, and sight-seeing. The entire Adams County Forest is open for regulated hunting. Temporary hunting stands are permissible but must be removed from the forest after each use. The use of nails, screws, screw steps, or other damaging devices is not permitted under the County Forest Ordinance and no permanent structures, not permitted by the county, shall be allowed.
The Adams County Land & Water and UWEX Committee have finalized an ordinance and the plan for the Adams County Forest Program. The ordinance governs all management activities on the Adams County Forest, including forestry and recreation programs.
