County Owned Dams

Land & Water Conservation

Adams County owns and operates nine dams and therefore is responsible for the associated maintenance and regulation.  Each specific dam is responsible for maintaining specified water levels set by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR).  These levels are referred to as the minimum and maximum operational levels.  The goal is to maintain the water levels between the minimum and maximum at a “normal” level.  However, during uncontrolled weather events such as drought or severe rainfall, these levels will deviate beyond the operational levels for shortened periods of time.  Depending on the size of the dam and associated impoundment, these fluctuations may range greatly based on the severity of the weather event.

Date: 4/12/2018

During routine maintenance at the Sherwood Dam it was discovered that there has been an excessive amount of erosion that has taken place in and around the base of the dam gate actuator. Temporary measures have been put into place to ensure the safety of the structure and the equipment. As this is not a long-term solution we anticipate starting the process to remove and replace the impacted structure immediately.

We must lower the lake levels to get to the area that needs repair and ensure worker safety. We will be lowering the lake levels for Camelot and Sherwood starting 4/12/2018. We anticipate Lake Shorewood being lowered about six feet from its current level. Construction is anticipated to be two weeks long commencing 4/16/2018 with a projected completion date of 4/27/2018. During this time we will make every effort to keep Lake Camelot within its operating range. When the construction is completed on Sherwood and in deemed to be within compliance of operational/safety standards. We will then close the flow gate on Sherwood to its operating range. Anticipating it will take 7 to 10 days for it to reach the operating range.
